G Two Octave Scale
Notes on playing the G Scale:
- Play each note singly in consecutive order...from the G to the
A to the B and so on.
- Count 4 beats on each note being played...as you're drawing the
bow on each note, count 4 downbeats...this can be timed well by
tapping your foot without any pauses between beats...the four beats
should equal the length of the bow.
- On
the first note, draw the bow on a down stroke...on the second note,
draw the note on an up stroke. Thus, you'll be alternating between a
down stroke and an up stroke as you play each consecutive note.
- Draw the bow in one spot on the violin only...you should be
attempting to develop good bowing technique while at the same time
you're learning your scales. This means that the bow should be drawn
in one spot, at an even angle, throughout the scalar study. The most
desirable spot to draw the bow would be close to where the fingerboard
ends...if the bow is drawn too close to the bridge, there will be more
of a trebly tone...the closer to the fingerboard, the softer the
tone.
- Be
sure to refer back to the beginning lessons on proper bow grip...so
that you're developing good habits while learning your scales.
