The true leader involves others in such a way that he or she and others are elevated to a higher degree of motivation, morale, and excellence. This interaction between leader and band member raises the level of human conduct, aspiration, and performance. These leaders develop a close relationship with others who then feel uplifted and become more active themselves, creating new centers of leadership.

The development of purpose is a challenge to creativity. It involves transitional neutral individuals into willing participants who have a particular contribution, musical sensitivity, and sincere commitment to offer the group. FronLthe viewpoint of the committed band member, the organization has changed from a normal activity to a valued source of personal satisfaction. The successful leader is an expert in promotion and development of important values, especially for the development of respect for the individual band member.

Respect for the individual is one of the most pervasive similarities among excellent bands.
Nothing is more important than feeling needed, which produces high expectations!
The most important trait of a successful band program is a uniformity of commitment from director, members, parents, administrators, and the community. Wherever you go in a successful band community, people talk about the tremendous quality of their band and are proud of their band's accomplishments.
