  Photoshop Tip: Change Eye Color

It's easy to change the color of the eyes from, say, green to blue. Although there are other ways of doing this, I've discovered a simple, yet effective method using the Red Eye Brush tool in Photoshop Elements. The Red Eye Brush tool is great for getting rid of red; however, the Red

Eye Brush tool is really a general color replacement tool in disguise, and it is great for changing the color of just about anything. Take a look at this example.

This is what I did to change the color of the eyes:

  1. Select the Red Eye Brush tool from the toolbar.

  2. Chose a brush size from the pop-up palette in the Options bar. I choose a Soft Round 65 pixels brush, but the brush you choose will depend on the specifics of your particular image.

  3. Specify a target color (the color I wanted to replace) by choosing First Click from the Sampling pop-up menu in the options bar.

  4. Specify a replacement color by clicking the Replacement color swatch and picking a light blue from the Color Picker. You can pick any color you want.

  5. Set the Tolerance in the options bar to 30 percent. A higher percentage would have replaced adjacent pixels with a broader range of color values. A lower percentage would have replaced only a few adjacent pixels with similar color values.

  6. Click and dragged over the pupils. The parts of the eye that matched the target color were colorized with the light blue. See an example.
