Answers to Quiz #10: Naming Intervals

1) For the following intervals, the proper number has been given. Put the correct symbol in front of each interval to indicate the quality. Watch the clef! (Hint: Remember to ask yourself "THE QUESTION!")

2) For the following intervals, give the proper number and symbol. Watch the clef!

NOTE: You may have found the second-last one (the M6) a little tricky. After all, what is the answer to "Is there a B-sharp in a D-sharp major scale?!" The best way to solve this one is to eliminate, in your mind, both accidentals. Then the question becomes much easier: "Is there a 'B' in a D-major scale?" The answer to that is 'Yes". Then if you put back the sharps, the answer is still yes, because both notes are raised by the same amount. Because the answer to the question was "yes," the interval is a major 6th.

3) Write the requested interval BELOW the given note. (The "o" stands for "diminished", and the "X" stands for "augmented".) Watch the clef!

4) Write the requested interval ABOVE the given note. Watch the clef!
