Carter Picking

One of the most famous styles of traditional country guitar playing, Carter picking was popularized by and named for country ledgend Maybelle Carter of the Carter family. The Carter family was one of the most influential musical groups of the 20's and 30's. Basically, Carter picking is a solo style of playing: The melody of a song is picked on the lower strings of the guitar, while the harmony is added inbetween these notes, strummed on the higher strings.
